This show is an all encompassing musical tribute to the 1950’s. Audiences are truly entertained by Larry as he croons song selections from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, and Harry Belafonte, and then belts out Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, and 1950’s Broadway songs. One feature of the show is the 1950’s versions of popular standards from the 1930’s such as I Only Have Eyes For You. This is a very up-tempo show with lots of audience participation.
TRIBUTE TO FRANK SINATRA
Celebrate with Larry all the wonderful music that is Frank Sinatra. Many well known songs have become synonymous with Sinatra: New York, New York, My Way, Strangers in the Night, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, I Get a Kick out of You, Witchcraft, All The Way, Chicago, Love And Marriage, Night And Day, That’s Life and more. And don’t forget that the audience can always make a special request.
THE VARIETY SHOW
Like it’s name, this show contains a variety of music and song. There are popular standards, Broadway shows like Phantom of the Opera which features a phantom mask with a hideous face underneath. Then there’s a variety of different ethnic music featuring Jewish, Italian, Irish, French, and Latin music. Larry also takes titles from his audience and composes an original song right on the spot. Another feature of the show is when Larry plays a long and forgotten verse to an old song and the audience must guess the song’s name. This always gets the audience involved in the show. And Larry may also perform Rhapsody In Blue or Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 THE VARIETY SHOW #2 is a mix of the best songs from a variety of my different shows including Broadway and the 1940’ thru 1980’s.

From the 1910’s to the present, Jewish entertainers and songwriters have made a significant impact on the music scene. Larry salutes Al Jolson, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern, Neil Diamond, Bette Midler, Marvin Hamlisch, Jerry Herman, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow and Sammy Davis Jr. Also featured are songs from the Broadway musical A Fiddler on the Roof. Larry also performs Jewish songs in Hebrew like Hava Nagila, Shalom Alechem, Artsa Alinu, and a moving rendition of Yerushalayim Shel Sahav. And Everyone sings along with Halleluia!

There’s just nothing like a Gershwin tune: Swanee, S’Wonderful, Embraceable You, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, A Foggy Day, Lady Be Good, Fascinating Rhythm, They All Laughed, Love Is Here To Stay, and Summertime. Larry also gives a few pointers from Michael Feinstein. And Rhapsody in Blue is a must!

In this highly entertaining and nostalgic show, the audience and Larry travel in time from 1940 to 1949 experiencing the great songs of that decade. Since there were so many everlasting hits during the forties, Larry divulges many interesting trivia facts regarding songs like All The Things You Are, In The Mood, Blueberry Hill, Amapola, That Old Black Magic, As Time Goes By, Sentimental Journey, Red Roses For A Blue Lady, It Had To Be You, Baby Face & Some Enchanted Evening. And what about that great Chopin piece that became a hit in 1946?

Larry Brendler recognizes the accomplishments of the talented black entertainers and songwriters in America throughout the 20th century. Featured are Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Harry Belafonte, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Mathis, Sammy Davis Jr., Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston. Also included is “Summertime” From the musical Porgy and Bess and “Old Man River” from the musical Showboat.

Larry has created individual tribute shows to Richard Rogers & Lorenz Hart/Oscar Hammerstein II, and Jerome Kern.
